LOUIS JACQUOT

GVM-2023-R0923-Louis-Jacquot-019.jpg

Louis Jacquot’s (b. 1994, Paris, France) practice hinges on relationships between objects and pictures. The artist’s sculptural paintings combine minimalist gestures with iconographic elements. In the past, he avoided his “own” mark-making in favor of objects that are practically devoid of any graphic elements. In the few cases where pigments were applied, Jacquot chose images that could belong to anyone. This period deals with an impersonal vocabulary of generic found symbols and objects which reveal a nuanced formal interpretation of the Ready Made.

Louis Jacquot graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris (2020), where he presented his BFA Thesis show DNSAP (2020). Recent solo exhibitions include: Louis Jacquot: Lay (Villa Magdalena, Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain, 2024), Gilbert de Clerc (Gate 44, Milan, Italy, 2024), Jeopardy (DS Galerie, Paris, France, 2024), Check 1 2 1 2 (Fonds de Dotations Weiss, Paris, France, 2022), Jantar Mantar (Futur, Paris, France, 2019). Recent group shows include: Illusive Places II: Thomas Chapman, Alejandro Garmendia, Louis Jacquot, Lucy Mullican, Milko Pavlov (Villa Magdalena, Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain, 2024), Est-ce celui-ci d’escargot qui renaît ou bien un autre? (DS galerie, Paris, France, 2024), Theatrum Mundi (Fermanville, France, 2024), Illusive Places: Thomas Chapman, Alejandro Garmendia, Louis Jacquot, Lucy Mullican, Milko Pavlov curated by Cy Schnabel (Pace Gallery, Seoul, South Korea, 2024), Cabinet de dessins (DS Galerie, Paris, France, 2024).

In 2026, he will present his first solo exhibition in Mexico at the Vasconcelos Library in Mexico City, an iconic building designed by Alberto Kalach and Juan Palomar. The exhibition will feature a new site-specific body of work produced for this project.
